Using Commas in Writing

Circle the errors in the following sentences. There are some commas missing and some places where there should be commas.

1. A Cunard steamer the Carpathia, arrived at the Titanic disaster scene two hours later.

2. Expecting to see the crippled Titanic the crew, of the Carpathia, found only lifeboats.

3. After the Carpathia had been on the scene for three hours another ship, the Californian, arrived.

4. It was decided that the survivors in the lifeboats would leave with the Carpathia and the Californian
    would stay on site to search for other survivors.

5. News reports that morning, were all wrong.

6. Some said that all the passengers survived but others said that everyone had died.

7. One of the first things the passengers did aboard the Carpathia, was to send telegrams to their relatives
    to tell of their survival.

8. The Carpathia which was headed for the Gibraltar changed course and returned to New York.

9. The passengers on the Carpathia collected spare clothes combs toothbrushes and coats for the
    survivors.

10. When the Titanic survivors, arrived in New York they were given a hero's welcome.

11. The real hero however was Arthur Henry Rostron captain of the Carpathia.

12. He was from Liverpool England.
